St. Andrew's Church, Levenshulme
(Church of England/Anglican)
A bit of history.
St. Andrew's Church was launched and built over 100
years ago, and for many years, in partnership with St.
Andrew's School, continued in its life. About ten
years that all changed - the building of both school
and church had come to the end of their lives, the
church riddled with dry rot. Both church and school
had to go.
A new school was built on a different site. But what
about a new church? There were little resources
available, so it was agreed - a small sanctuary/store
area was built onto the school hall, and the church
would worship there. The church still worships there
today.
And the lesson had been learnt in a very practical
way - the church isn't the building, it is a group of
people who come together in God's name.
And the practical lesson had been learnt - set free
from a building, a church can get on with being the
body of Christ where God has put them. Too often the
building is simply a millstone.
