A few years ago at one of our churches they
had to remove a balcony. This poem, the only poen I've ever written, was inspired by that.
The Skip.
They put a skip outside our church,
Ugly, an eyesore, a mess.
The builders filled it to the top
With wood, plaster and the rest.
The balcony had had to go,
It was dead, a danger, had rot.
The boss decreed: 'pull it down',
The builders took the lot.
Then at twelve, in the dark,
Sneaky, uninvited, a pain,
Someone came and chucked some more
Into our skip again.
'How dare they', I cried, 'fill my skip
Couldn't they go down to the tip?
I paid for that, it's my rubbish alone
That'll be carried in the skip!'
Then light came - He did the same.
The boss said: 'Lo, the rot must go;"
This world is dead; the blood flowed red
As the skip of the boss hung on the cross.
He took the lot; not just a jot;
He took the pain, gave us the gain.
He cleaned it up, took the cup
Of poison we had made.
The council came and cleared up the mess,
Unseen, efficient, I'm glad.
But it's the boss of heaven who Easter came,
who dealt with the really bad.

Blessed are you, Lord God of all mankind. We
praise you that you sent your Son Jesus Christ who left heaven for us, who was born as a baby for us, who lived and shared life on earth with us, who gave up family, friends, work, to minister to us. Who gave up His life for our salvation. Who conquered death so that we might find everlasting life.
Blessed are you, Jesus Christ, Son of God, who
gave so much so that we might be children of God.
Blessed are you, Holy spirit of God, that as you
dwelt in Jesus Christ, so you dwell in us to make us like him. Amen. |

Blessed are You, Lord God, giver of
life everlasting.
Blessed are You, Lord Jesus Christ,
Son of God, who by your life, your death, your ressurectiion and your ascension became the gateway into the presence of God, became the gateway to everlasting life.
Blessed are you, Holy Spirit of
God, who prepares us to stand in the presence of God, who cleanses us of all that comes between us and God, who strengthens us to enter with confidence into the presence of God. |
